Yahoo news...MRAP trucks: Afghan savior or boondoggle? I saw this article and I have a couple things to say. This truck and life saving equipment for the Marines and our soldiers are great. After all we Americans really don't object to being the worlds police, and fighting injustice. We object to losing lives doing it. And with technology what it is today we should be able to do this job with minimal life loss to our soldiers and servicemen. This thing is good!
The only thing I would suggest is that they take a modular approach to vehicles and start with a vehicle with a flat box frame at least 6-8ft off the ground, and then have modules like the V hull that deflects IED blast that bolt under when needed.

Military Vehicles should be modular including MRAP's

Also float pontoons for amphibious use instead of the V- haul that bolts on or even have a plow that bolts under as a module thing. All tire sets should modularly bolt on and off also. You could use the same set up on each wheel unit, and maybe bolt on 4 wheels sets for light duty, 6 wheel sets for medium duty and 8 or more wheel sets for heavy duty. Each wheel set would have its own electric or gas powered module that could hook into the flat box platform frame which would house all mechanicals, fuel lines, wiring and some emergency reserve fuel and water, and ammo. Actually you could have a boat hull that bolts on to box frame with propulsion to use modular thing as transport or seek and destroy boat also. The separate module units could be shipped back to states for repair and even unbolted or cut away if need to affect an escape from hostile situation! The great thing about this is GM already is thinking future cars will be like this (modular with batteries in frame section) and they can use what they have right away to make for military now! |
