This is for all the people still burning open trash, don't burn plastics, pvcs release hydrogen chloride!
It's ok if you want sterile children and birth defects in your children and grand children!
PVC is not just a problem because of dioxin emissions. Burning PVC also produces at least 75 byproducts of combustion, including carcinogens such as vinyl chloride, PCBs, chlorobenzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, xylene, and naphthalene.

HYDROGEN CHLORIDE Gas
EFFECTS OF A SINGLE (ACUTE) OVEREXPOSURE: INHALATION–Overexposure to vapor concentrations
moderately above the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) of 5 ppm irritates the
upper respiratory tract. Concentrations ranging from 50-100 ppm are
intolerable. High concentrations (e.g., greater than 50 ppm) cause choking,
coughing, burning of the throat, and severe irritation of respiratory tract,
with possible ulceration of the nose, throat, and larynx, laryngeal spasm,
pulmonary edema, and general lung injury. Exposure to concentrations of
1500-2000 ppm is life-threatening. Liver and kidney injury has been reported
after exposure to vapors. SKIN CONTACT–Hydrogen chloride gas may
severely irritate the skin, causing chemical burns Their is no reason to poison your neighbors even if you town
or village doesn't pick up your garbage or charges you for accepting it at
the dump. Most accept your plastics and
When I was a kid from 1-4 yrs old living in Elmira Heights NY, I went to Lincoln Elementary school Kinder garden, it was a short walk down the street to my fathers parents house where we lived with them for about six months when I was 5 years old. 1-3yrs where spent in Elmira NY, Year 4-5.5 in Buffalo NY. Then when I was growing up I often spent long weeks at either Elmira Heights or Waterport NY where my mother parents lived on 5 acres on the water at we would stay at aunt Ida's cottage next to my mother grand parents house. The cottage was there since Ida and Uncle Buck ran a park there since the late 1800's. There was a boat dock, a boat house, boats, and a huge garden and some people still rented trailer space, about 6 or 8 trailers.
2008 Map Areal View of 9 Tannery St. ( Another story how my grand mother got conned by a realtor into selling the 5.5 acres for with huge house for 68k. I told every one don't let her sell it for under 800k, no f'in listened, some one grabbed it in a week and sold the property 2 years latter for U want to guess?) story...
What's my point? Both my grand parents lived in the country, in the heights, when I was there I had to feed the chickens and get the eggs out of the chicken coupe and help with the garden and at Waterport the same, I would help with the garden and chickens.
My point, My point is in all those years of going into the country or living in the country or visiting the country.
The only time we ever burned anything in a open fire was the leaves and that was done in a wire basket well away from any structures or buildings and nobody burned anything else ever and this was done once or twice a year.
What I want to know is why some 40 years latter even though it is against federal law EPA regulations and NY State law every person who lives in the country believes it ok to burn everything they don't want in a burn barrel?
You can't open a window on a hot spring, summer or fall day without toxic fumes and smoke choking you out.
The dam people 2 houses down keep a barrel burning 24/7 ever day. I get head aches, back aches and sick to my stomach every day because these people have no respect for there neighbors. I wouldn't mind if they burnt there trash once a week preferable on Mondays, or once a month, but give me a fr'in break.
Also, don't be burning painted wood , any thing with pesticide on it, treated wood which contains arsenic or any wood that is toxic like hemlock, or willow which contains aspirin, and most old wood also contains lead and mercury.

Most important burn in a fire pit or a container made of mesh wire, or chain link fence, so the fire combust completely and does not smolder or smoke when burning like when using burn barrels. If you don't see ambers rising from the fire every once in a while your fires no good. It's polluting and a nuisance to all your neighbors, and quit frankly a health hazard.

NYS DEC don't pollute our air...
Here another foot note it was around 1989 and I was driving from Maryland to Buffalo NY threw Pennsylvania, it was fall and my sister had picked me up in her Ford probe and we tooling up Route 15 in PA. My sister goes to me: Next year all those leave fires won't be there. I said why?
She goes all happy: I just wrote the regulations for the EPA that prohibits all open burning without a permit and it has been passed into law, along with a bunch of other regulations. I said that great but do you think that anyone's going to enforce federal law on these people? She was adamant that it would make a difference.
She was right about one thing, dry cleaners and businesses, the laws, regulations she wrote as a consultant for the EPA made a difference, but on a residential level in NY it hasn't done shit!
Some country folk are just ignorant when it comes to pollution and being neighborly.
Here's an Idea if you want to feel all country, erect a chicken coupe and take care of some chickens and get fresh eggs or has that been out lawed, but who gives a shit open burning is outlawed and you still do it? Right? You want to know what I think. I think everyone burns shit because you can go into Hamburg or Buffalo and say look at what I can do. I can burn shit in my back yard and you can't! Don't you wish you lived in the country, in the southtowns?
Me, If I get a piece of land I'm going to build a chicken coupe, that's what I'm going to do and I'm going to do it just to be able to go into Buffalo and say, ha, ha, look what I can do in the country! But when I get there the black people are going to say: Shit white bread, we do the same thing but with dam Pit bulls, we build pens, raise Pits and then we fight them, and the Mexicans they have chickens and they fight them too. Right here in Buffalo. Go home fool!
It's alright though the other reason I'll build a chicken coupe is it will remind me of my youth and family, a camp fire might do that also, but a burn barrel?
Burn barrels should go the way of out houses, that's the only thing I don't miss about my youth and the country.
